How to choose a sport and a market
A sportsbook with thousands of lines can be more confusing than useful. These five questions narrow it down before you open the bet slip.
- Start with the league you actually watch
If you follow the Oilers every night, you already know who is injured and who is on a cold streak. That knowledge is worth more in an NHL market than a hunch about Serie A.
- Match the market to what you can judge
Moneyline asks only who wins. Totals ask how many goals or points. Player props ask about one person. Pick the question you can answer with some confidence.

- Read the odds in your own format
Decimal and American odds describe the same price. Switch in Profile → Preferences to the one you read without doing mental arithmetic.
- Size the stake before you pick the bet
Set the amount you are comfortable losing for the evening first, then choose markets that fit inside it, not the other way round.

How the parlay boost grows with every leg
The Parlay Booster is Tonybet's answer to the question every parlay bettor asks: why take on extra risk for the same price? Each leg must be priced at 1.20 or more, and from the third leg on, your winnings get multiplied.

There is no code to enter and no wagering on the extra money, which makes it one of the simplest promotions in the Canadian market. The boost grows step by step between those points, so every leg you add raises it a little. Twenty legs is a long shot, of course; for most bettors a parlay of three to six legs is the realistic zone, and the boost works best as a pleasant top-up rather than a target.

Then and now
Sports betting in Canada before and after 2021
Few markets have changed as fast as Canadian sports betting. Bill C-218 got royal assent on 29 June 2021, and from 27 August 2021 you could bet on a single game. The provinces then built their own rules on top of that.
- Single-game bets were not allowed; a bet had to cover several events
- Ontario and Alberta had no regulated online market yet
- No provincial rules on where bonuses could be advertised
- Bet on a single NHL game or a single player
- Ontario's regulated market open since 4 April 2022, Alberta's since 13 July 2026
- In Ontario, offers appear on the operator's own site and in opted-in messages only
For you as a bettor, the practical result is that the Tonybet site you see depends on where you are. Ontario players use tonybet.ca, which is listed in the iGaming Ontario directory for both casino and sports. Alberta has its own site and app under the AGLC. Everyone else plays under a permit from the Kahnawake Gaming Commission. The markets on the board look much the same across all three.

Sports betting questions from Canadian bettors
Is single-game sports betting legal in Canada?
Yes. Bill C-218 received royal assent on 29 June 2021, and single-event betting became legal across Canada on 27 August 2021. Each province decides how it is offered, which is why Ontario, Alberta and the rest of the country each have their own Tonybet set-up.
Can I switch Tonybet odds to the American format?
Yes. Open Profile, then Preferences, and pick the odds format you like. Decimal and American are both available, so you can read a Leafs line as 2.10 or as +110, whichever you grew up with. The setting sticks to your account on desktop and phone.
Do I need a code for the Parlay Booster?
No. The boost switches on by itself once a parlay has three or more legs, each priced at 1.20 or higher. There is no code to enter and no wagering attached to the extra winnings. It starts at 1.05x for three legs and climbs as you add selections.
Can I watch games live inside the sportsbook?
Tonybet does not stream video in the sportsbook. Live events come with match trackers instead, which follow the action and the key numbers as the game goes on. Most bettors pair them with the TV broadcast.
Is there a welcome offer for sports bettors?
Outside Ontario, the sportsbook welcome offer described on the brand's blog asks for a C$15 minimum deposit, then five times that amount in qualifying bets within 14 days, and returns a free bet of 100% of the deposit up to C$350. Ontario players see offers inside their account, as the province's advertising rules require.
Do the casino and the sportsbook use separate balances?
No, there is one wallet for both. A deposit made for an NHL bet can also be spent in the casino, and winnings from either side land in the same balance. Bonus money is different: it follows the terms of the offer it came from.
